As online shopping increasingly becomes a part of holiday traditions, we posited whether or not merchants can ship their orders in a timely manner. According to new data from Slice Intelligence, the answer is yes. On average, the top online retailers deliver goods within five days of the order being placed. Amazon, with the help of Prime two-day free-shipping, has the shortest time between click and delivery at 2.9 days, followed by Target with a wait of 4.1 days.

More online shopping means more package deliveries and consumers prepared for the influx of packages leading up to the holiday season by purchasing home security accessories. In just one month, from October to November, the home security category grew by almost 5x, led by huge sales from Ring video doorbells and Arlo security cameras. Aggressive retailer promotions of these devices, combined with consumer anxiety over package theft, helped secure strong sales into the holidays.

2017 seals its place as the largest online holiday shopping season ever

With less than a week until Christmas, it’s become clear that 2017 will go down as the biggest online holiday shopping season yet. According to new data from Slice Intelligence, revenue for the 2017 shopping season (November 1 through Christmas) is up 23 percent over the previous year. This is helped by the fact that 14 percent more people are shopping online while spending eight percent more than last year's cohort.
